We acknowledge that Kingston is situated on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples. This land has been a place of gathering, relationship, and community for thousands of years, long before the city we know today came to be.

We recognize that the history of this territory is complex, and that the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada has not always been one of respect or equality. We acknowledge the harm that has been caused, and the resilience of Indigenous peoples who have continued to steward, celebrate, and protect this land and its communities.

Building a city where everyone belongs means being honest about where we come from. It means listening to voices that have too often been excluded from the decisions that shape our communities. And it means carrying a genuine commitment to reconciliation forward, not as a statement, but as a practice reflected in how we govern, how we plan, and how we grow.
